KINETIC SCORECARD - CAMILLUS UKAH’S ANA PRESIDENCY AT A GLANCE


 

1.      Formation of strategic panels and committees to fast track the delivery of the Association’s objectives. Two of the Committees are: ANA Reconciliation and Peace Building Committee and ANA Land Review Committee

2.      Monitored and supervised elections held in its chapters in Oyo, Kogi, Kaduna, Osun, Kwara,  Abuja, Nassarawa, Bayelsa, Yobe etc.,

3.      Establishment of partnership with other similar stakeholders like the Nigerian Copyrights Commission (NCC), Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC),

4.      Held the 9th and 10th  Meetings of the National Executive Council Members with State Chapters’ Chairmen and Secretaries held in Ilorin Kwara State, 

5.      Held its 2020 and 2021 Authors’ Groove at the Nigerian International Book Fair

6.      Fully participated in the burial of the former ANA President, Prof. Jerry Agada,

7.      Fully participated in the burial of Late Prof. J.P. Clark. The 2020 Edition of ANA Review was dedicated to the memory of the late literary sage.

8.      Held its 3rd Conference/ Creative Workshop in partnership with Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu –Alike Ikwo in Ebonyi State with the theme “Re-imagining Belonginess in 21st Century Africa” which was delivered by Dr. Chika Unigwe,

9.      Fast-tracking development and construction activities on the ANA Land in Mpape, Abuja where presently the basic structures originally earmarked to be built on the land are in various stages of completion.

10.  ANA for the year 2020 further streamlined its literary prizes, a few prizes whose endowments have since expired or which no longer received competitive entries,

11.  Three distinguished members of the Association (Chinedum Nwajiuba, Prof May Nwoye and Prof Mallam Al-Bishak) were inducted as fellows of the Association at the 39th International Annual Convention which held in Ilorin, Kwara State in December,2020.

12.  Fully on ground at the Valedictory Lecture and Retirement from the Service of University of Ilorin organized in honour of Prof. Olu Obafemi.

13.  Partnered with Bayelsa State First Lady on A-Book-A-Week Project.

14.  ANA National Executive Council in the year 2021 partnered with some of its chapters in the staging of special programmes and events such as the Marking of the World Book Day etc.

15.  ANA successfully held a well-attended and very memorable 39th International Annual Convention in Ilorin from December 1st to 4th in the year 2020. The Convention was attended by five past Presidents of the Association, they include: Prof. Femi Osofisan, Prof. Olu Obafemi, Dr. Wale Okediran, Prof. Remi Raji and Mallam Denja Abdulahi.

16.  ANA donated new titles of books sourced from past literary prizes entries to schools and libraries.

17.  ANA in the year 2020 and 2021 at various times was in secondary schools to inaugurate the Young Writers Mentoring Scheme in furtherance of nurturing literary creativity among teenagers and young persons,

18.  ANA has taken advantage of the PAWA newsletter to disseminate information about her programmes and activities beyond Nigeria.

19.  ANA introduced virtual seminars and Panel sessions to continue with her programme in the time of lockdown.

20.  Continued to defend and uphold the integrity and unity of ANA wherever and whenever it is called  to  question while extending  a hand of fellowship to members who have the progress of the Association at heart.

21.  Revived and energised the Nigerian writers Series which was started by the past administration.

22.  Partnered with formal Oyo State first Lady on a book- a week- Per child project

23.  The 10th Meeting of the National Executive Council Members with state chapters’ Chairmen and Secretaries held in Ilorin, Kwara State with 12 Chapters given sub-grant to carry out innovative literary outreach programmes under the ANA/Yusuf Ali Literary Awareness Project 2021. The beneficiaries include: ANA Abuja, ANA Edo, ANA Oyo, ANA Kogi, ANA Rivers, ANA Imo, ANA Benue, ANA Bayelsa, ANA Ebonyi, ANA Yobe, ANA Abia and lastly the host, ANA Kwara.

24.  Introduced the Chinua Achebe Prize for Literature endowed by the Anambra State Government in honour of Late Chinua Achebe with a million naira cash reward,

25.  Introduced Prof. Jerry Agada Prize endowed by Prof. Moses Tsenongu in honour of the former President of the Association, Prof. Jerry Agada.

26.  Unveiled Forty Thousand Books Project to Mark ANA’s 40th Anniversary

27.  Took ANA@40 Celebration to Ibadan, Yenagoa and Port-Harcourt,

28.  Introduced the Ikeogu Poetry Prize for Teen Poets endowed by the family of the Late Poet,

29.  Launched/Commissioned Imodoye Writers Enclave (Ile Iwe) in Ilorin. A Private initiative of Dr. Usman Oladipo Akanbi, former Chairman of ANA Kwara. Imodoye Writers Enclave (Ile Iwe) was built for the use of young and professional writers across the country wishing to enhance and hone their creative writing skills. The initiative hopes to take after Dr. Wale Okediran’s Ebedi International Writers Residency in Iseyin

30.  Upgraded and moved ANA Website from www.ana-nigeria.com to www.ananigeria.org

31.  Fully participated in the burial of the former ANA National Secretary, Hyacinth Obunseh,
