2020 ANA Literary Prizes: Call for Entries

 

2020 ANA LITERARY PRIZES: CALL FOR ENTRIES

SEPTEMBER 27, 2020


 INTRODUCTION

The Association of Nigerian Authors [ANA] hereby announces the prizes for its 2020 literary competitions.

The prizes are:

  1. ANA Prize for Poetry (published & unpublished) – N 100,000
  2. ANA Prize for Prose Fiction (published & unpublished) – N 100,000 
  3. ANA Prize for Drama (published & unpublished) – N 100,000  
  4. ANA Prize for Children's Literature- 7-13 years age range (Published works only and open to all categories of authors) - N100, 0000

 

Nigerian writers, at home and abroad, desirous of entering their works for the Annual Literary Prizes, may now do so. Works entered should have been published between 2018 and 2020. 

REQUIREMENTS

  1. An entry fee of N3, 000 (per entry) is required for all the prizes. The fee is to be paid by the author or the publisher in favour of the:

Please, note: 

[a] Due to the contradictions brought by  the global pandemic (COVID-19), causing delays in all spheres of  human life, this year’s prizes have been trimmed down  to four as listed above.

[b]The entry fee is for the purpose of prize administration only. 

[c] A photocopy of the appropriate Deposit Slip[s] MUST accompany Requirement #2 below. 

 

  1. Six copies (6) of the book or manuscript to be entered, specifying the Prize being entered for, alongside a covering letter and the photocopy of the Deposit Slip used in Requirement 1 above, should be sent by post to:

The covering letter should contain accurate contact details of the writer or/and publisher of the work, including email and surface mail addresses and telephone numbers. 

 

Please, note also that: 

[a] The Association will NOT take responsibility for the delay in the postal service nor claim registered parcels in cases where it has to pay for such entries or parcels. 

[b] Multiple entries, where applicable, are allowed but a work must not have been entered for the same prize prior to the present entry and it must have been published between 2018 and 2020.

GENERAL INSTRUCTION

 The works that are to be submitted in all categories should be original and not recast(s) of already existing works. All submissions are subjected to copyright laws of Nigeria as authors should note that they retain full responsibility for any sort of infringement. Works entered into for ANA prizes are expected to be of the highest language and literary quality.

DEADLINE

Deadline for the receipt of ALL entries is  October15, 2020 (there will be no extension of this deadline).  A shortlist will be announced by the first week of November, 2020. Winners of the prizes will be announced by the judges at the Awards Dinner during the International Annual Convention of the Association of Nigerian Authors in November, 2020.

ANA Reconciliation and Peace-Building Committee

 

ANA RECONCILIATION AND PEACE-BUILDING COMMITTEE


Given the significance of peace in building a viable Association, the National Executive Council of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) has taken a decision to resolve all conflicts (amongst members) through a constructive approach. As part of the resolutions reached during its inaugural meeting in Owerri, Imo State on Saturday 5th September, 2020, the EXCO has set up a committee to reach out to all members across the country and build peace where and when necessary.  This committee of highly respected and experienced personalities is expected to deliver on its assignment and resolve all grievances amongst members.
The members of the committee are:

TERMS OF REFERENCE


 The Committee is expected to work within a timeframe of five weeks in line with following terms of reference:


1. Reach out to ANA members that are aggrieved / discouraged by the unprecedented crisis experienced by the Association during the
2019 Convention in Enugu.
2.      Reach out to members that have played divisive roles in the aftermath of the said Convention.


3.      Endeavour to reintegrate all dispirited members to the fold.


4.      Suggest ways of avoiding future occurrences of crisis in the Association.


5.      Network with ANA chapters on possible ways of closing the gaps in the relationship between Chapters and the National Executive Council (NEC).


6.      From their interactions with membership across board, draw up a code of conduct for ANA members (which will later be incorporated into the constitution).
Conclusion


We believe the Committee will complete its work and bring lasting peace to all aggrieved/dispirited members of the Association.

The ANA Land Review Committee

 

THE ANA LAND REVIEW COMMITTEE


In order to create a transparent atmosphere for literary productivity to thrive without undue misgivings concerning the ANA land in Abuja, an ANA Land Review Committee has been set up in accordance with a motion moved during the Emergency General Meeting (EGM) in Makurdion the 17th of July, 2020 demanding that an independent probe panel on the land should be set up immediately by the incoming ANA National Executive. This led tothe resolution reached during the inaugural National Executive Council meeting in Owerri, Imo State on Saturday 5th September, 2020. The fourth item on the list of resolutions was that a committee would be set up to collate and investigate claims and grievances (if they exist) concerning the Association’s property in Mpape Abuja from 1985 till ANA Convention 2019. This very important committee is made up of the following distinguished personalities:

TERMS OF REFERENCE


The ANA Land Review Committee is expected to work within a time frame of five weeks in line with the following terms of reference:


1.      To review the developments on ANA Land from
1985 to 2019.


2.      Engage with former Presidents and past National Executives of ANA to ascertain their operations on ANA Land during their tenures of office.


3.       Review past and present contractual documents that ANA had/has signed with third parties and developers.


4.      Ascertain the present level of development on the land and engage with the current developer (KMVL).


5.       Receive memoranda from ANA members with useful information and suggestions about the land.


6.      Recommend to the Association “the way forward” in getting the land developed to completion/ its future management.

 

CONCLUSION
We believe the Committee will complete its work and bring clarity to all issues pertaining to ANA Land.
