ANA RELEASES LATEST UPDATE ON THE 2021 CHINUA ACHEBE PRIZE FOR LITERATURE

The Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) has released an update on the newly endowed Chinua Achebe Prize for Literature.

It would be recalled that the Anambra State Government under the political leadership of Gov. Willie Obiano instituted a national prize for literature in honour and memory of the founder of the Association, Late Prof. Chinua Achebe with a million naira cash reward.

This was contained in a press statement issued by the General Secretary of the Association, Maik Ortserga in Makurdi on Friday.

Part of the Statement reads, “Over forty entries have been received for the 2021 edition of Chinua Achebe Prize. A Panel of judges has been appointed for the Prize. Meanwhile, the prize money has since been released to ANA by the Anambra state Government.” 

The statement further reads, “Throughout history there have been men who have envisioned a better world, men whothrough their writings offered a framework through which humans can live in peace.Chinua Achebe was one of such men. It is interesting that the Government of Anambra state has brought home to the people in a new way the significance of Chinua Achebe in a distress democracy by endowing the CHINUA ACHEBE PRIZE valued at one million naira.” 

Winners will be announced during the International Convention and Grand finale of ANA @ 40 Celebration in Abuja at the beginning of November 2021."

The Statement finally encouraged those who have missed this year’s opportunity to take advantage next year’s edition of prize which has come to stay.
