ANA Bayelsa host a successful ANA/Yusuf Ali 2021 Literary Awareness Campaign

ANA Bayelsa decorates Bayelsa State with 2021 ANA/Yusuf Ali Literary Campaign, the event which hold on 23 April 2021 at the Niger Delta University Auditorium was a huge success.

The participanting schools and their students have the opportunity to participate in essay competition, spelling competition and quiz competition.

The event with the theme: Raising Tommorow's Literary Giants had cash prizes given to the winners.

ANA President Felicitates with Governor Samuel Ortom on the occasion of his birthday.

The President of the Association of Nigerian Authors, Mr.  Camillus Ukah has today in Ibadan Oyo state  felicitated with the Governor of Benue State, His Excellency Dr. Samuel I. Ortom on the occasion of the Governor's birthday.

In a felicitation letter made available to the media by the ANA General Secretary, Maik Ortserga during the celebration of ANA @ 40 at the Wole Soyinka Theater, University of Ibadan,  President Camillus Ukah described Gov. Ortom as one of the most committed leaders in supporting literature, culture and the arts in Nigeria today.

He cited Gov. Ortom's generous sponsorship of the ANA 2018 Convention in Makurdi and the grand reception which the Governor had given to writers such as the Noble Laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka, the Secretary General of Pan African Writers Association, Dr. Wale Okediran and his humble self, as testimonies of Gov. Ortom's love for literature.

According to Mr. Ukah, it was the Governor's goodwill that informed his decision to kickstart the presidential campaigns that led to his eventual election as ANA president in Benue State.

He maintained that the coinciding of the Governor's birthday with World Book Day and the opening ceremoney of ANA @ 40 celebration is by God's design.

He thanked the Gov. for expressly making him a Benue indigene and prayed that the good Lord should continue to protect the life of God Ortom as he continues to put his life on the line for the good people of his state.

ANA Sets up New Caretaker Executive Committee for Kaduna State; Stephen Adinoyi Heads Committee

 

ANA SETS UP NEW CARETAKER EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE FOR KADUNA STATE; STEPHEN ADINOYI HEADS COMMITTEE



 The National Secretariat of the Association of Nigerian Authors has announced the constitution of a caretaker committee for the Kaduna State Chapter of the Association.

This was contained in a press release issued by ANA General Secretary, Maik Ortserga and made available to the pressmen by ANA PRO South, Wole Adedoyin.

According to the release, the following persons are with this announcement appointed to serve in the Committee:

Stephen Adinoyi - Caretaker Chairman.

Mustapha Suleiman - Secretary     

Judith Gabriel - Member

The caretaker committee is to start immediately and work towards conducting elections and returning the chapter to its glorious past.

ANA finally wished the appointees all luck and success in the discharge of this historic burden.

ABOUT STEPHEN ADINOYI (CARETAKER CHAIRMAN)

Stephen Adinoyi is a poet, lyricist, play writer, short story writer and a scriptwriter. He is a former Vice Chairman of the Association of Nigerian Author, Kaduna branch; and the former Chairman of the Kaduna Writers League.

His works has been published in newspapers like: The Sun, Daily Trust. And in reviews: ANA Review, Ebedi Reviews, and in online international writing bodies like: Fanstory.com, Triond, and yahoo contributed network writing.com etc.

Also published in anthologies of poems like: After The Curfew, Fireflies, Weaver Anthology, Wushapa: Beating The Drum of Peace.

His pidgin poem: Kros Ova, was anthologized in a collection of pidgin poems called If Yu Hie Se A De Prizin. His pidgin play called A No Beta Pas Mai Nebor was staged in Abuja in 2013.

His Poem, Seoul, won the first prize during the 2016 edition of the Korean/Nigeria Poetry Festival and the commemoration of World Poetry Day in Abuja.

He has a published novella called Teen of Fifteen. And a play called Virus of Ignorance. A freelance writer and a consultant in human resource development and educational services.

 INTRODUCTION

The Association of Nigerian Authors [ANA] hereby announces a range of prizes for its 2021 literary competitions. The prizes are:

  1. ANA Prize For Poetry (Published & Unpublished) – N 100,000
  2. ANA Prize For Prose Fiction (Published & Unpublished) – N 100,000 
  3. ANA Prize For Drama (Published & Unpublished) – N 100,000  
  4. ANA Prize For Children's Literature- 7-13 Years Age Range (Published Works Only And Open To All Categories Of Authors) - N100, 0000
  5. ANA/ Abubakar Gimba Prize For Fiction (Short Stories Collection-Published) – N200, 000.
  6. ANA/Maria Ajima Prize For Literary Criticism (Focus On Criticism Of Emergent Nigerian Literature) – N100, 000
  7. “ANA/Jerry Agada Prize For Idoma Language Literature” (Published & Unpublished) –  150,000  

Nigerian writers, at home and abroad, desirous of entering their works for the Annual Literary Prizes, may now do so. Works entered should have been published between 2019 and 2021. 

 

REQUIREMENTS

 

  1. An entry fee of N3, 000 (per entry) is required for all the prizes.The fee is to be paid by the author or the publisher in favour of the:

[a] The entry fee is for the purpose of prize administration only. 

[b] A photocopy of the appropriate Deposit Slip[s] MUST accompany Requirement #2 below. 

 

  1. Six copies (6) of the book or manuscript to be entered, specifying the Prize being entered for, alongside a covering letter and the photocopy of the Deposit Slip used in Requirement 1 above, should be sent by post to:

The covering letter should contain accurate contact details of the writer or/and publisher of the work, including email and surface mail addresses and telephone numbers. 

 

Please, note also that: 

[a] The Association will NOT take responsibility for the delay in the postal service nor claim registered parcels in cases where it has to pay for such entries or parcels. 

[b] Multiple entries, where applicable, are allowed but a work must not have been entered for the same prize prior to the present entry and it must have been published between 2019 and 2021.

 

 

GENERAL INSTRUCTION

 The works that are to be submitted in all categories should be original and not recast(s) of already existing works. All submissions are subjected to copyright laws of Nigeria as authors should note that they retain full responsibility for any sort of infringement. Works entered into for ANA prizes are expected to be of the highest language and literary quality.

 

ANA/ Maria Ajima Prize for Literary Criticism (published works only) 

Length: Not more than 15 pages of A4 paper size following format of academic essays.

  1. Type double spaced using MS Word. Use Times New Roman Type face 12 point font size.
  2. The essay, if published in a journal, newspaper, books or as electronic text on-line, must be within the valid dates indicated on this call for submissions.
  3. Referencing style is either the latest MLA or APA style.
  4. Five hard copies as loose sheets or as a bound monograph are to be submitted to ANA, plus a soft copy sent by email to info.ananigeria@yahoo.com and
  5. Maikortserga@gmail.comThe essay should not be a generalized survey but should rather be focused on specific texts (in any of the genres) of selected authors at a time.
  6. The essay should state where the texts or performance analysed can be accessed or located and where it (essay) has been published.
  7. All entries in this category should be accompanied by a letter affirming the originality of the essay and authorial authenticity.
  8. In addition, all other rules covering ANA competitions are applicable.

 

Copyright: The copyright to every winning entry is to be held by the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), Maria Ajima Trust, and the author of the work. The winning entry will be published in subsequent ANA Reviews.

Entries must be accompanied by photocopies of Birth Certificate/Declaration of Age and any other evidence of the entrant as a school-going person.

 

 

 

DEADLINE

 

Deadline for the receipt of ALL entries is  25th May, 2021(there will be no extension of this deadline).  A shortlist will be announced in September, 2021. Winners of the prizes will be announced by the judges at the Awards Dinner during the  International Annual Convention of the Association of Nigerian Authors in November, 2021.

ANA President Camillus Ukah Greets Muslims at Ramadan

 

ANA PRESIDENT CAMILLUS UKAH GREETS MUSLIMS AT RAMADAN

 


ANA President, Camillus Ukah has felicitated with the Muslim community on the sighting of the crescent which indicates the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan.

 

In a statement by the National Publicity Secretary (South), Wole Adedoyin said Ramadan fasting and prayers is a test of endurance and dedication to the Muslims’ faith.

According to the Statement, “Among the Muslim festivals, it is Ramadan which is said to be the most popular festival and holds great religious significance. Ramadan is observed all over the world as fasting to commemorate the first revelation of the Quran to Muhammad according to Islamic belief. The annual observance of Ramadan is regarded as one of the Five Pillars of Islam and lasts twenty-nine to thirty days, from one sighting of the crescent moon to the next.”

Camillus Ukah urged Muslims to promote the beauty of their faith through positive personal conducts during this fasting period and to take the center stage in promoting and spreading love among fellow Nigerians in order to consolidate our unity.

ANA President finally noted that peace and unity are the greatest assets that should not be taken for granted by Nigerians and further advised Nigerians to observe Covid-19 Protocols put in place by the Federal Government during and after the fasting period.
