A SPARK OF ENTHUSIASM AS ANA RECIEVES FUNDS FROM YUSUF ALI (SAN)

Ahead of the Association of Nigerian Authors ANA)’ celebration of its 40 years of existence across Ten Nigerian Cities, ANA yesterday received three million naira support from the legal luminary, Yusuf Ali (SAN), the Ilorin-based lawyer, author and philanthropist, has continued his annual donation of three million naira to the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), This marks the eighth year that ANA has taken delivery of similar support from Yusuf Ali (SAN) towards ANA/Yusuf Ali 2021 Nationwide Literary Awareness Campaign.

Confirming the donation, Umar Yogiza Jr, ANA’s Publicity Secretary (North), confirmed that the money had been received by the association. He said, Yusuf Ali takes his time and diligently follow the issues in ANA until he is satisfied that the Association has put the ugly incident behind and moved ahead towards a future of rapid increase in literary activities. The grant was first secured by the National Exco of ANA in 2012, almost all the state chapters of the Association received the sub-grants, one time or the other, between 2012-2014, for local literary awareness campaigns involving secondary schools across the federation.

 

In 2015, the grant was used by the then National Executive Council of ANA to host a workshop on fiction writing in Abuja in which about 25 students, drawn from tertiary institutions across the country via a competitive process, participated. In 2016, the Denja Abdullahi-led National Executive Council of ANA reapply the grant, focusing on innovative literary awareness campaign among tertiary institutions across the country through selected state chapters.

In 2017, the grant was used to published three children’s literature titles, under the banner of Nigerian Writers Series (NWS), and books had been distributed to ANA chapters nationwide to engine ANA‘s A-Book-A-Child nationwide project, which started at the ANA 36th International Convention, Makurdi, Benue State, in October, 2017, upon which the Phase two was launched by then the wife of the Governor of Ekiti State, Erelu Bisi Fayemi, at the 37th International Convention of the Association, Ikeja, Lagos.

The 2018 grant was used to facilitates a comprehensive media supplement on the projects executed with the yearly grants over the years and an intensive workshop for 15 selected chairmen of ANA chapters focusing on “Innovations in Contemporary Literary Awareness Campaigns” to deepen the execution of the project in the coming years.

In 2015, Yusuf Ali (SAN) promised to sustain the annual grant to Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) for life. Yusuf Ali is a Nigerian lawyer, elevated to the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria in 1997. He attended the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife), He's the Principal Partner at the Law Firm of Yusuf O. Ali & Co based in Ilorin, Kwara State.

Yusuf Ali is a reputable author, lecturer at the Faculty of Law, University of Ilorin, Editor-in-Chief of the Nigerian Bar Journal and benefactor of ANA Kwara, “Association of Nigerian Authors, thanks and appreciates Yusuf Ali (SAN) for his consistent and yet-to-be matched generosity in supporting literary awareness in the country, and we call on other well-meaning Nigerians to emulate his gesture of support for the literary arts,”.
