ANA Mourns Professor David Iornongu Ker

 

ANA MOURNS PROFESSOR DAVID IORNONGU KER


 

ANA President, Camillus Ukah, on Saturday, extolled the virtues of renowned Professor of English and a former two-time Vice Chancellor of Benue State University, Makurdi and Varitas University, Abuja, Professor David Iornongu Ker, OON who passed on in the early hours of Friday.

Expressing his grief and condolences via a statement issued by ANA PRO South, Wole Adedoyin said he received news about the death of Professor David Iornongu Ker, OON with a rude shock.

Camillus Ukah described the death of Professor David Iornongu Ker, OON as a massive loss to the country, academia and especially ANA Benue where he served as a patron of the writers’ body.

While urging his family members, colleagues and the entire members of the pen profession to take solace in the fact that Professor David Iornongu Ker, OON lived an eventful and impactful lifetime, Camillus Ukah prayed the Almighty God to forgive his shortcomings and grant him Paradise, as well as give the family the courage and fortitude to bear the great loss.

Ukah finally called on Gov. Samuel Ortom of Benue state and the current Vice Chancellor of Benue State University to immortalize the great academic to ensure that he did not die in vain.

Professor David Ker’s career as a university lecturer began in 1975 and has spanned from university of Ibadan to his alma mater ABU, Zaria, to Benue State University, Makurdi where he was one of the institution’s resourceful pioneer staff members. His pivotal role in establishing the university is evident in the numerous offices that he occupied right from the inception of the institute. These included, Dean of faculty of Art and of the Post Graduate school; Head of Department of English; Deputy Vice-chancellor; and Vice Chancellor. Prof. David Ker emerged as the best Vice-Chancellor of Nigerian state university in 2003, prompted his further appointment as vice-chancellor, Veritas University, Abuja.
