Professor Moses Tsenongu institutes Literary Prize in Honour of Agada

 

PROFESSOR MOSES TSENONGU INSTITUTES LITERARY PRIZE IN HONOUR OF AGADA


 

A former chairman of the Association of Nigerian Authors ANA, Benue State chapter Professor Moses Tsenongu has instituted a national prize for Literature in honour of the literary body’s former president, Professor Jerry Agada.

Tsenongu announced this Monday when he hosted to a dinner, some national officials of the Association who were in the state on a condolence visit to the government and people of Benue over the death of Agada.

Agada who, until his death, was the chairman, Benue State Civil Service Commission, died December last year and had since been buried in his country home, Unporo, Orokam in Ogbadibo local government area.

The former ANA Benue chairman explained that the literary prize is to immortalise Agada whose contribution to the growth of Literature and the Nigerian book project remains indelible as evidenced in the number of publications he had to his credit among other endeavours.

Tsenongu expressed hope that the national leadership of the Association of Nigerian Authors would work out modalities that could speed up the process for commencement of award of the prize.

In a speech, the ANA national president,  Mr. Camilus Uka described the move by professor Tsenongu as bold and commendable, saying the literary award on the Association’s erstwhile national president was well deserved.

Also speaking, the immediate past ANA president, Mallam Denja Abdullahi who said Tsenongu was one of the right persons to institute a national prize in honour of the revered author and former minister of state for education, said such would boost commitment among writers.
