ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIAN AUTHORS, ABUJA CHAPTER HELD HER MAIDEN ONLINE AUTHORS READING IN A GRAND STYLE ON 08-02-2021.
Adapting to the new normal of existence occasioned by Covid-19 crisis where the internet has provided an easy alternative to physical or one on one assembly, another milestone was recorded by Association of Nigerian Authors, Abuja Chapter as her maiden online Guest Author reading which featured an exciting Guest Author, Chimnemezu Nwaeze (Vinepaul) took off on an impressive note.
The reading slated for 6:00 p.m Monday February 8, 2021 started on cue with members indicating their presence in the house. Dominic Nwobodo said the Opening prayer at 6:10 p.m to declare the reading open after which the opening remarks came in by the Caretaker Committee Chairman, Amb. Lois Otse Adams who called on members not to relent in their effort for a good cause no matter the distraction from any direction. She further appealed to members to show good attitudes towards impactful events like the reading by Guest Authors. According to her, we should “have positive aptitude to create good contents and have confidence in whatever we do”.
The Guest Author was ushered in at exactly 6:15 p.m to read his Poems for 30 minutes. Expressing his delight to be in the house, the Author commenced with a Poem he entitled ‘COVIDMADNESS’ a poem accepted and published in the 63rd issue of European Envoi in 2020. The poem chronicles the absurdities that arose as a result of China 2020 gift to the world which got Dr. Uche Akunebu saying this 'With Wuhan in China giving the world a toxic gift, the literati on the other hand, have been pushing their pen; and this is one of such effort. Bravo!"
Next was another piece entitled, “YOU-THS” Published in 2018 in a NASELS NIGERIA ANTHOLOGY OF POETRY AND PROSE; an interesting poem that reaffirmed the essence of youthfulness and the bright future awaiting them if youths resist being used and manipulated by the vultures but assuming their rightful positions which also had many and Dr. Uche Akunebu say in awe 'Reading this poem, my mind flashes to the title of the book "our children are coming "by late professor Chukwuemeka Vincent Ike . The youth speaking in this poem, is visionary and knows his/her destination. You have certainly made professor Ike, proud with this poem'.
Next from the stable of the Guest Author was 'MIGHT', a poem that mirrored the potency of writers and their writing; this particular piece made Dominic Nwobodo say wow! This is impressive as Amb. Adams in her desire to hear more continually said 'please continue'.
Chimnemezu Nwaeze (Vinepaul) concluded the day session with an interesting poem, which brought to fore the pent up anger unleashed all over the world following the brutal murder of George Floyd. “AND THE WORLD STOOD STILL” as he entitled, after reading and listening to this great piece Dr. Uche Akunebu reaffairmed his happiness as he said
'I must commend the caretaker Committee for bringing a serious writer, for us to relish his work . More power to your pen, Vinepaul'.
Fahad Babangida in his vote of thanks appreciated the Guest Author for his time, in his word he said, "Thank you so much our highly guest Author, Chimnemezu Nwaeze (Vinepaul) with your remarkable poems. It is an honour to have you in this prestigious platform. Having people like you in this country most especially to us the youths, will definitely strengthen our reading culture and motivate us more to write.
I so much believe everyone today enjoyed all your readings and that made our evening. May the good lord bless you with more knowledge and wisdom sir. We thank you so much Vinepaul.
